There is some irony to the timing of this blog. I wrote it last week but before I could finish it, I came down with a nasty case of the good old flu. So when I talk about getting comfortable being uncomfortable, I can say that I have lived this timely advice within the past week. Now it’s Thanksgiving week, so it’s time to count our blessings and remember that life is wonderful.
Except when it sucks. Which, sometimes, it does. I cannot lie. I can only suggest a well tended connection to an inner Pollyanna with an endless supply of optimism to get you over the bumps life throws you. Because there is life after, well, life.
Much like life, not all horses offer a rider a comfy ride all of the time. Some horses are easy to sit on, some bounce you out of the saddle. Some require great skill and determination, others could pack a sack of potatoes and never lose a spud. The thing is, once you’re astride and a ways down the road, you’ve got to ride the horse you’re on till the end of the ride, and do it to the best of your abilities. Sometimes, that means getting comfortable with the uncomfortable, until something better works out.
Get comfortable being uncomfortable isn’t just for Navy Seals; it’s a mantra for anything and anyone experiencing challenges and their accompanying sisters, growth and change. Experiencing discomfort is pretty much a required sacrifice for anyone wanting out of the rut they are in.
